An AlphaSmart is a good compromise. Easy to transfer to a computer, super lightweight for lap typing and portability, tons of battery life and it saves immediately so you will likley never lose anything.
I'm with you. I have had that happen one too many times - and once is enough! Google Docs saves every few words, so that's as close to anything not typewritten I get.
You know, I have a Neo, but I don't use it very often. I can't reread everything I wrote without hassle, which is good for mind dumps, but isn't so great for my non-frenzied writing habits, lol

the issue is due to MS's monopolizing habits, you only have MS software. I recommend replacing Windows with Ubuntu,and finding better replacements for MS Office applications.
